Volunteer Stories
Learn about the real experiences of PAWA volunteers and feel the growth and touching moments they have gained in helping others.
“I never thought that I would experience an 8-month long cold war in my marriage. It felt like being trapped in an invisible cage, swallowed by silence and loneliness every day. I tried to find a way out, but I didn't know how to take the first step. Until I met PAWA and Dr. Miao. At first, I just attended a psychological growth lecture at PAWA with a try-it attitude. Dr. Fang talked about Psychological Capital in the lecture - confidence, hope, resilience and optimism. She said that real growth is not waiting for the outside world to save you, but learning how to make your heart stronger. This sentence deeply touched me. With her encouragement, I started to participate in PAWA's psychological support program, learning how to adjust my mindset, how to communicate in a healthier way, and slowly learned to love myself again. Dr. Miao is not only a mentor, she is more like a lamp, giving me guidance and strength when I was most confused. Now I have not only walked out of that shadow, but also become a PAWA volunteer. I want to pass on the help I have received to more people in need. Because I know that sometimes, a warm companionship and a right word can change the direction of a person's life. Thank you Dr. Miao, thank you PAWA, for helping me find myself.”

“I never thought that I would have such a deep connection with an organization focused on empowering women. As a fresh graduate, I was not familiar with the topic of "women's rights" and even felt that I might not be able to help. But after meeting Dr. Miao and PAWA, my thoughts changed completely. The first time I came into contact with PAWA was at a career development seminar. Dr. Miao not only talked about gender inequality in the workplace, but also emphasized the importance of spiritual growth to personal growth. Her perspective made me realize that supporting women's rights is not just a woman's thing, but a responsibility for all of us. She encouraged me to participate in PAWA's volunteer program and told me that men can also play an important role in this process. With her encouragement, I began to actively participate in PAWA's various activities - helping to organize lectures, planning public welfare projects, and even joining the women's entrepreneurship support team. I have seen too many women hindered in their growth due to lack of resources or social prejudice, but I have also seen that when they get the right support, they can create unlimited possibilities. Dr. Miao's influence made me understand that true equality requires the participation of everyone. As a man, I hope to use my time and ability to make more people realize that supporting women is not to weaken men, but to create a fairer and more inclusive society. This is not just a struggle for women, but a goal that each of us should strive for. Thanks to Dr. Miao and PAWA, I have found my own growth direction in the process of supporting others. I hope to do more for the association and encourage more men to join this positive change!”

“As an educator, I have always believed that knowledge can change destiny. But it was not until I joined PAWA that I really realized that the education of the mind has a far more profound impact on a person than the cultivation of skills. During my time as a PAWA volunteer in Los Angeles, I met many women who were struggling in their families, confused in the workplace, or gradually losing confidence under the pressure of life. However, with the guidance of Dr. Fang Miao and the help of the PAWA psychological support program, they began to re-understand themselves, learn how to adjust their emotions, how to face challenges, and how to regain a sense of control over their lives. Dr. Miao has always emphasized that true growth is not just about learning new skills, but about learning how to face the ups and downs of life, how to build inner strength, and how to move forward firmly no matter what situation you are in. This touched me deeply. In my educational experience, I have seen too many students who have mastered various knowledge and skills, but because of their inner confusion and anxiety, they find it difficult to truly realize their potential. Compared to teaching knowledge, helping a person build confidence and a strong spiritual core is the most important education. And this is what PAWA is doing - they not only provide resources and help, but also use practical actions to let every woman see her own value. I am honored to be a member of PAWA. I hope to continue to use my educational background to bring this power of spiritual growth to more people. Because I believe that a truly powerful person is not how many skills he has mastered, but he can improve his wisdom and move forward firmly in any environment.”
